John
Chambliss, Chief, Network Operations Management, Internal Revenue
Service
John Chambliss is the Chief, Network Operations Management
for the Internal Revenue Service. In his 30 year career with IRS,
John has held leadership positions throughout all disciplines of
Information Technology. He is a Senior Fellow with the Council for
Excellence in Government and was recognized by the Council in 2005
for his leadership in the design and deployment of a distributed
network management system for the IRS. In 2006, John was recognized
by the Secretary of Treasury for his leadership displayed during
Hurricane Katrina.
John is ITIL and CMMI certified. He if often requested to speak
at conferences and in user groups on the topic of application/network
performance engineering.
An avid athlete
in high school and college, John came within 5 seconds of breaking
the world's record for the 50 yard dash on several occasions during
the late 60s and early 70s. He also tried his hand at semi-professional
golf, but quickly tired of the game because "the ball was not
a moving target". John still holds the Little League record
for the most consecutive batters walked in an inning with two outs
- twelve straight walks. In the early 70s, John is believed to have
popularized the salutations "Later" and "Check you
around campus".
John lives in
Memphis with his wife and 2 children. He encourages everyone listening
to declutter to simply their lives. John will not, because decluttering
involves too much work!
