Gerhard
Eschelbeck, CTO and VP of Engineering, Qualys
Gerhard Eschelbeck is responsible for securing thousands
of customer networks worldwide, including over 150 Fortune 1,000
companies. Mr. Eschelbeck also serves on the Department of Homeland
Security Task Force on Cyber Security Early Warning. He is well-known
for "The Laws of Vulnerabilities," based on research derived
from the industry's largest real-world vulnerability dataset, a
statistical analysis of millions of critical vulnerabilities collected
by millions scans during a two-year period. Mr. Eschelbeck recently
testified to Congress on his findings, at the hearing on "Worm
and Virus Defense: How Can We Protect Our Nation's Computers From
These Serious Threats?" Mr. Eschelbeck's research has been
featured at major security conferences including Black Hat, CSI,
and RSA as well as in The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.
Prior to joining
Qualys, Mr. Eschelbeck was Senior VP of Engineering for security
products at Network Associates, VP of Engineering of anti-virus
products at McAfee Associates (before it was acquired by NAI), and
Founder of IDS GmbH. Earlier, he was a research scientist at the
University of Linz, Austria, from which he earned Masters and Ph.D.
Degrees in Computer Science and where he teaches regularly in the
field of network security. Mr. Eschelbeck has authored several papers
and is an inventor of numerous patents in the field of managed network
security.
