Steven
Hunt, Senior Architect Information Systems, Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center
At MSKC, Steven Hunt's responsibilities involve the evaluation,
integration and implementation of technical solutions to meet business
and applications requirements. As an MSKCC architect, he provides
technical solutions to meet business and systems requirements, from
data interiority, high availability, through business continuity
solutions. In the last ten years over 15 major enterprise applications
were embarked upon from MSKCC Hospital Administration to automate
manual procedures. The data center has grown from 30 Windows servers,
three UNIX servers, and under 1 TB of storage to over 1000 Windows
servers, 300 Unix processors, and 950+ TB of usable storage. These
applications include electronic medical records, orders and results,
scheduling as well as ancillary systems--pharmacy, blood bank and
radiology. The role of architect has also been expanded to provide
consulting services to various departments’ application systems
in the area of storage and data management and to provide new data
storage offerings. The new offerings included enterprise implementation
of NAS units to replace Windows File servers and UNIX network file
servers; and tiered storage that included file achieving, CAS appliances,
and the development of a data warehouse to store and index non-specific
data and data not associated with an application, making the index
and data accessible to the institution.
Prior to his current position at MSKCC, Mr. Hunt was a Manger of
Open Systems and Enterprise Storage there. He has also worked as
a Director of Technical Services and Operations at a major retailer;
a manager of technical services at a major defensive contractor;
and a director of technology for a major NYC not-for-profit hospital.
Mr. Hunt earned his Bachelors of Science from Fordham University.
