Howard
Israel, Corporate Security Officer, Fidessa Corp.
Howard Israel has held leadership positions in the IT security field
for over 25 years and is currently the Corporate Security Officer
for Fidessa corporation responsible for IT security, audit and physical
security for North America. Howard started with the NSA in the DoD
National Computer Security Center performing security evaluations
of commercial operating systems for IBM, DEC and Sperry against
the "Orange Book" and co-authoring parts of the Rainbow
Series of security standards. He then worked at AT&T Bell Labs
developing secure UNIX Systems and was co-creator of the first commercially
available Intrusion Detection System. He worked on various security
consulting projects, including co-developer of the Trusted Software
Methodology for the US DoD Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). Overseas
experience included performing security consulting to the Taiwanese
government for 5 months in Taipei, Taiwan. He then was in charge
of security at AT&T WorldNet Service, one of the largest ISPs.
At Lucent Technologies he was a Senior Security Consultant in charge
of the Data Security Consulting practice, including bids & proposals,
pre-sales, customer interface and delivery manager. At Avaya he
was the Security Strategist in both the Services division and the
corporate CTO office, where he coordinated security initiatives,
including managing a company-wide 60+ person virtual security team.
He has written several published papers in IT Security, including
one of the first published papers on Computer Viruses. He holds
a BS in Business & Computer Science from the University at Albany
and an MS in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.
