Micro
Dave Rand is the Chief Technology Officer for Internet
Content Security for Trend Micro. He is responsible for the integration
of IP filtering and IP reputation technologies with Trend Micro's
current strengths at the network and Internet gateway to create
innovative solutions to problems such as spam, phishing and pharming.
Mr. Rand joined Trend via the Kelkea acquisition in June, 2005,
where he was the founder and CEO. Kelkea, previously know as Mail
Abuse Prevention System (MAPS), was a leading provider of dynamic
reputation-based anti-spam solutions. Mr. Rand co-founded MAPS in
1996 as the first Anti-spam company and pioneered the first IP reputation
system using the DNSBL (DNS Blocklist) which uses IP addresses to
identify and block sources of abusive mail. Since
coming to the United States from his home country of Canada over
20 years ago, Mr. Rand has worked with the leaders in both networking
hardware and software, including AboveNet Communications, Cisco,
National Semiconductor and Novell. He has developed some of the
most widely adopted network technologies, including the industry
standard for tracking bandwidth utilization, the Multi Router Traffic
Grapher (MRTG(r)). Mr. Rand has been an active member of the Internet
Engineering Task Force since 1991 and authored several internet
standards.
