Fred
Silva, Director, Operations, NYC Dept of Education/ SCA
Fred Silva is director, responsible for all operations,
QC/QA, Internet development, security and systems at the NYC School
Construction Authority. In this role, Mr. Silva is responsible for
development of best practices and the management of the production
environment supporting the construction and upgrade of the five
boroughs public schools. In this capacity Mr. Silva not only supports
the development efforts of the organization but also insures best
practices in execution and management of the organization’s
technical infrastructure. A good portion of his time in the past
year (2004-5) has been leveraging the opportunities and overcoming
the challenges of access and connectivity in a world where Internet
access is quickly becoming ubiquitous. Project managers, architects
and engineers both within and outside the organization are seeking
more and more access to systems as schedules are compressed and
budgets tightened.
A newcomer to the construction industry, Mr. Silva has spent a significant
portion of his career building IT strategies, performing due diligence
and managing systems in the media and manufacturing industries.Prior
to joining the SCA, Fred was most recently AVP for Primedia, a then
1.7B media conglomerate. While serving as the senior technology
officer, the company and IT was cited as number one in its industry
vertical n the InformationWeek 500. While serving as the senior
technology officer, the company and IT was cited in the top ten
in its industry vertical of the InformationWeek 500.
Mr. Silva has an MBA in MIS from the Hagan School of Business at
Iona College, a local college in Westchester, NY where he also earned
his undergraduate degree. He is also a member of PMI and pursuing
PMP certification.
