Larry Whiteside Jr., CISO, Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY)
Larry Whiteside Jr. is the CISO at Visiting Nurse Service
of New York (VNSNY), the largest private home healthcare provider
in the country. In this capacity, he manages a group of security
professionals and provides support to all internal and external
networks and computer systems used by the corporation and its entities
in securing the transmission of data to or from VNSNY corporate
facilities. Mr. Whiteside interfaces with engineers, developers
and systems personnel to address and identify security issues in
current and future projects. He assists in the security review and
testing of all networks, servers and applications; troubleshooting
problems and recommending solutions; the establishment of security
policies and procedures. Core responsibilities include assessing
information security posture, evaluating risk, and determining mitigation
strategies. Prior to VNSNY, Mr. Whiteside worked at Marsh &
McLennan Companies, Inc. as Deputy CISO, VP of Global Information
Security; at Computer Horizons Corp. as a Managing Sr. Security
Consultant; at netForensics as a Consultant-Director of Competitive
Analysis and Technical Documentation; as Director of IT Security
in the Naval Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C.; and
at TruSecure Corporation as a Senior Security Analyst. Mr. Whiteside
was a United States Air Force Officer from 1994-2002, where he was
Chief, Information Warfare/Network Security Divisions at the Pentagon.
He was also Chief, Network Security Division - Single Agency Manager
at the Pentagon. He has also been an Information Systems Flight
Commander and Chief, Network Control Center at the Pope Air Force
Base in North Carolina. In the Air Force Mr. Whiteside has been
honored as the Company Grade Officer of the Year in 1997 and 2000
and has given security status briefings for the Joint Chiefs of
Staff and monthly Pentagon Security Group. He received his BS in
Computer Science at Huston-Tillotson University in 1994.
